WAR CRY!
A TRIBUTE TO THE NORTH HIGH CLASS OF 1970
(A movie By Joe Wolf)
“War cry!” is a project that I
started about a year ago. I’ve worked on
it sporadically ever since but very intensely over the last six months. It is a movie that not only chronicles many
of the fun times we had at North as teenagers but it also is reflective of the
turbulent times we grew up in. In
developing the format I wanted to cover more than just our senior year. I also wanted to reflect the important events
of our time: the assassinations, Viet Nam, and the Civil Rights Movement to
name a few. I have also included a
moving tribute to our fellow classmates who are no longer with us. To move the twenty-four plus minutes of video
images along I have used a backdrop of great music by the Beatles, Rolling
Stones, “Satchmo,” Small Faces, Elton John, and Canned Heat.
As
kids growing up in the sixties life was pretty simple for most of us. While we enjoyed the fruits of our parents’ labor,
“hung out” with friends, attended sock-hops, mixers, pep rallies, ball games, parties,
and proms people were dying for causes they believed in. In general, we were pretty oblivious to the
importance of those causes.
My
objective in creating “War Cry!” was to give us an opportunity to reflect on
our youth, our innocence, and our naiveté.
“War Cry!” is a bit of a roller coaster ride as you will see. The video consists of approximately 200
photos taken from the 1968, 1969, and 1970 yearbooks, photos from my own
personal collection, and from Jim Curd’s collection (thanks so much Jim!). To capture the mood of the sixties I have
also included many historical photos some of which you will recognize from news
reports of the day.
“War
Cry!” will be shown a on a large screen at our 40-year reunion the evening of
Saturday, September 25. Copies of the
movie are for sale with ALL net proceeds being donated to the Wounded Warriors
Project. No copies will be released
prior to the September 25 showing.
However, if you would like to order copies in advance pre-orders are
being accepted now. If you are attending
the reunion and order an advance copy I will deliver it to you at the
reunion. The cost is $20.00 (you can pay
more if you wish because as I said, ALL net proceeds are going to a very worthy
charity, the Wounded Warriors Project).
Order forms will be available at the reunion.
