Steve cool, classy and never change from start to finish. Understated but dependable and very likeable, the guy was cool by me.
James who went by Darryl was my buddy and group member in KC and the Marvels a neighborhood dancing group who later form the band Colored People in which Darryl played the keyboards. He had a sly sense of humor and drove a corvair. We had many adventures performing in Wichita "chitlins circle clubs". His mom Mrs. Henly was our manager and the most positive person I have ever known. James stay thin his entire life, how? No one knows. He was a good guy, a fun guy and we shared many memories together at North. His sudden death caught all of us by surprise, he ws never ill, his family, sister Jackie and brother Larry will miss a guy who never said a unkind word about anyone. I will miss him most because he was one of my friend with many of the best links to my teenage years. The planned conversations of old men will never happen now, he's gone but never forgotten.

GLEN, my man!!! I see you're going to the Reunion, and I was wondering how are you getting there ... Plane, train, or drive? Well, you don't know this, but I've moved back to the place where I was born, Las Cruces, NM, and would it be too far out of your way to pick me up? I could help with fuel and all. Driving that distance alone isn't smart. I may have to fly. I'll have my therapy dog with me. You can call me att 575-400-74008, or text me at "slaphappykat@gmail.com". I really want to see you and your family! I'm alone, except food my dog. Grandkids are in Kansas. Holler, lol, sweetie?
I've known Don since the fourth grade and never knew him to not be a complete gentleman even though he was even then the best athlete in the school. Always cool, always the best in sports, big, fast and strong but never one to put it in your face. Many a games when the crowd riff was Calhounnn! He brought a lot of pride to North High and the only class member to play pro football. Never saw him after high school but in the fifty years after, never heard a single rumor about him. It is sad when good men leave us if for no reason other than that there is not a whole lot of them. Some of the best memories I have of High School include Calhoun. The memories still linger even though the memory maker has left us. They say no one dies as long as they are remembered, I will always remember Don Calhoun.
Happy Happy Birthday

Hey folks! Remember when Joel was the first kid to grow a mustache at John Marshall?
There are some people that are born cool and instantly likeable. Joel was the best athlete of our class. The pride of John Marshall. At North he held his own, he wasn't "Don Calhoun"but he was no slouch! He was cool in high school, and let us not forget those were the "sixties". There were a lot of pretender and it was not him. Joel was the same guy at fifty as he was at fifteen. We had our moment but we both grew beyond it and became better men. Joel was a man of character and a overall good guy. I will miss not having him at our fiftieth class reunion, he was a big part of us and we are less without him. I waited to comment to give others who were closer to say their piece because I wasn't a close friend but I always enjoyed his company and he was a man I respected. I will miss him.
IT'S ALWAYS NICE TO HAVE A BIRTHDAY! BEST WISHES.
