My life has been like a book or soap opera. Ha! I was born in St Louis, MO. And yes, I still miss living there with my family.
After moving to Wichita in 1961, I was not welcomed in the neighborhood. Neighborhood kids would watch me walk home from Garrison each day, hiding like if I was a freak or something. Ha! Like I could not see them. I think about it now and laugh. I did not have the guts to go speak to them then. If it weren't for Mary Womer Leslie, I would have drown from rejection.
Wichita was different. A lot of dry hot weather in the summer. I loved that part of it. I could sweat, have a dark tan and keep my hair light all at the same time. Never knew what sunscreen was then. It was baby oil and iodine that kept me tan DARK AS ALL GET OUT.
I picked up running as exercise at an early age. It was at Garrison Elem. that I got "hooked," and I still get out there. The knees are not what they use to be, but I still love to sweat.
Since then, I have been to or lived in every state in this great USA. And now, I sit here back in Wichita? Weird. I never thought I would see the day...... want to know more? Come 'see me in Sept.'
